
Scholarships and Grants for Members
The Purple Pot Society is offering need-based scholarships to help women continue their bonsai education, and grants to encourage more women to show their bonsai trees in national exhibits and to get the equipment they need to advance their art. Below are our current scholarships and grants. Applicants must be current members of The Purple Pot Society. If you would like to donate to our scholarship fund please do so below.

The Purple Pot Society's ABS Learning Seminars Scholarship - $300

The Purple Pot Society encourages more women to continue their bonsai education by attending the American Bonsai Society's Learning Seminars. Women who have already registered (or are interested in registering) for this yearly event are welcome to apply by completing a google form. This scholarship helps cover the ABS Learning Seminar's 3-day registration fee. Room/board/travel and workshop fees are not included. The scholarship recipient will need to provide proof of registration (for the 3-day event) before they are reimbursed. Applicants must be current members of The Purple Pot Society.
The 2026 Seminars will take place in Asheville, NC on June 4-7, 2026.

Bonsai Tree Exhibition Grant - $250

The Purple Pot Society hopes to encourage more women to show trees at national shows with this tree exhibition grant. This grant will award $250 to a woman whose bonsai tree has been accepted into any upcoming national-level bonsai exhibition worldwide to go towards the registration costs incurred. Proof must be provided that their bonsai tree has been accepted into a show. Awardees must also write an article for The Purple Pot Society's blog about their experience at the bonsai exhibition, or on another bonsai-related topic of their choice. Applicants must be current members of The Purple Pot Society.

Bonsai Tool Grant - $250

The Purple Pot Society wants to help women get the bonsai tools and supplies that they need to begin or continue their bonsai journey. This grant will award up to $250 (retail price) in bonsai tools and supplies from Joshua Roth to a current female member of The Purple Pot Society. This grant has no monetary value and no money will be refunded to the award recipient. Award recipients must write a blog article for The Purple Pot Society on a bonsai-related topic of their choice.

Free Beginner Bonsai Workshop
Sponsored by Bonsai Bar
The Bonsai Bar will award one of our female Purple Pot Society members with a free Beginner Bonsai Workshop. The Bonsai Bar hosts bonsai workshops in 13 states (USA) at local coffee shops or breweries. Attendants are given an easy tree species for beginners (dwarf umbrella tree or elephant bush) to work on.
